October 17, STOP THE F-35 DEPLOYMENT CITY WIDE CARAVAN

Thanks to the work of Tom B, Tim C., and many others there will be a hopefully massive car  / bicycle caravan filling Madison’s city streets in protest against the F-35s.  Let’s all gather in the East H.S. parking lot around noon to decorate our cars and bikes to be noticeable as part of the caravan.

We will depart East at 12:45PM to join others on the capital square – State St corner (hopefully the whole square will be filled). We’ll then head to Demetral Park. (NOTE change in location for this) for food, music, and solidarity against a war-mongering, environment and person destroying, deafening abomination that is the billion dollar F-35 nuclear bomb carrying jet.  More information here.

BEFORE NOVEMBER 5Help Afghan Refugees by Donating Fabric for ClothingA Note from Dane Sanctuary Coalition

Greetings: In an effort to continue supporting the Afghan women who have recently arrived at Fort McCoy, we are putting out one more request for fabric and sewing accessories. Perhaps you already dropped off fabric, donated money, or indicated to us that you wanted to participate……so THANK YOU for your support….and here is one more opportunity if you are interested and able.

The women at Fort McCoy have truly appreciated your donations and sewing machines have been buzzing. Four car loads resulted in hundreds of women able to make clothes for themselves and their families.

What’s needed now?  MORE FABRIC: all lengths, colors and weights, including remnants, are welcome. Pieces that are at least 3 yards are the most useful. AND NOTIONS of all kinds: thread, needles, scissors, elastic, buttons, tape measures, etc.

PLEASE feel free to forward this and reach out to your friends, family, and neighbors. ALL contributions should be dropped off on the porch of 611 South Prospect in Madison, any time of any day until 5:00 pm November 5.  We will deliver the car loads to Fort McCoy. If you have no fabric stashed away to donate, and would like to contribute, feel free to purchase fabric locally and drop it off.

ON behalf of this group of Wisconsin’s recent arrivals, THANK YOU for helping us continue to warmly welcome them.

Please let Leila Pine know if you donate anything for the Afghan evacuees at Ft. McCoy through any organization, by sending her an e-mail (sabinosanctuary@gmail.com) with the words “Donations for Afghans” in the subject line, and send your name and what things you donated–cash, fabric, home furnishings, etc.
