Each week this congregation gives half of all offerings collected in our plate to local organizations whose work furthers our mission. Here are some of our prior recipients. All members and friends are invited to nominate an organization that they’re familiar with or inspired by.

  • Share the Plate – 4/14-4/21 – Arts and Literature Lab

    The Share-the-Plate recipient for April 14 and 21 will be the Arts and Literature Lab, a community-driven contemporary arts center showcasing visual, literary, and performing arts. They offer numerous arts education opportunities. Their guiding values of accessibility, curiosity, ethics, equity, excellence, free expression, generosity, gratitude, responsiveness, and solidarity align with our own. They were nominated by Virginia Harrison.  

  • Share the Plate – 3/31/24 and 4/7/24 – Autism Society

    The share the plate for March 31st and April 7th is The Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin. The Autism Society of  South Central Wisconsin is dedicated to improving the lives of all who are impacted by Autism by providing information, resources and support, while raising awareness and acceptance in our community. They create connections, empowering everyone in the autism community with the resources needed to live fully. They were nominated by Mary Schaper 

  • Share the Plate – 3/17/24 and 3/24/24 – Teacher Support Network

    The Share the Plate recipient for March 17 and 24 will be the Teacher Support Network, a program of the Madison Public Schools Foundation, which helps MMSD teachers buy needed resources for their students. From pencils to snacks to winter gear, this fund allows teachers an option other than their personal funds to address unmet student needs. They were nominated by Joan Kemble.

  • Share the Plate – 3/3/24 and 3/10/24 – WUUSAN

    The Share the Plate for Sunday March 3rd and Sunday March 10th is The Wisconsin Unitarian Universalist State Action Network Inc (WUUSAN). WUUSAN envisions Unitarian Universalist congregations in Wisconsin in a collaborative relationship, sharing hopes and ambitions, embracing UU values, and working together to bring about the Beloved Community in the state of Wisconsin. Their mission, grounded in their UU faith, is to build and sustain a collaborative network where all voices are heard.  Using inclusive democratic process, they will employ their resources to support those efforts that our congregations deem most critical to our state.  

  • Share the Plate – 2/18/24 and 2/25/24 – Community Immigration Law Center

    The Share the Plate recipient for Feb. 18 and 25 will be Community Immigration Law Center. They work to address the unmet legal needs of immigrants in the Madison area, especially those facing deportation. They provide legal representation and consultation, as well as education on immigration issues for the wider community. 

  • Share the Plate – 2/4/24 and 2/11/24 – Allied Food Pantry

    The Share The Plate for Sunday February 4 and Sunday February 11 is Allied Food Pantry. Allied Food Pantry is located in the Boys and Girls Club in the Heart of the Allied Dunns’s Marsh neighborhood. It aims to provide fresh, healthy food to individuals and families in need serving 260 Households or 800 neighborhood residents monthly. Prairie Unitarian Universalist Society is a member of Allied Partners which is a  supporter of the food pantry. Allied Food Pantry was nominated by Megan Barry-Luglio. 

  • Share the Plate – 1/21/24 and 1/28/24 – Great Turning Hospitality House

    The Share the Plate recipient for Jan. 21 and 28 will be the Great Turning Catholic Worker’s hospitality house. This house is designed to welcome those in need of housing, particularly refugees, women and children. It is next to the Great Turning Catholic Worker Farm, whose mission is to be a hub of resiliency, combining community life and gardening. Those running the house and farm were inspired by Joanna Macy’s writings about “The Great Turning,” shifting from industrial growth to life-sustaining community. They were nominated by Pete Haney. 

  • Share the Plate – 1/7/24 and 1/14/24 – Get Kids Outside Wisconsin

    The Share the Plate for Sunday Jan 7, 2024 and Sunday Jan 14, 2024 is Get Kids Outside Wisconsin. Get Kids Outside Wisconsin’s core belief is that nature is the greatest healer and teacher. Their mission is to provide outdoor opportunities that increase health and wellness and promote learning. They create community through public hikes and events that heal hearts, calm minds, and remind us that we are more alike than different. Get Kids Outside Wisconsin was nominated by Diane Schwartz.

  • Share the Plate – 12/17/23 and 12/24/23 – Middle East Children’s Alliance

    The Share the Plate recipient for Dec. 17 and 31 will be Middle East Children’s Alliance, a nonprofit humanitarian aid organization focused on supporting the lives of children in the Middle East. They are working in Gaza to provide emergency assistance to families who have fled their homes and to get emergency medical supplies to hospitals and clinics. They were nominated by Jennifer Hedstrom. 

  • Share the Plate – 12/3/23 and 12/10/23 – Four Lakes Welcome Corps

    The Share the Plate recipient for Sunday 12/3/2023 and 12/10/2023 is Four Lakes Welcome Corps. Welcome Corps is a federal program which empowers everyday Americans to welcome refugees arriving through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Four Lakes Welcome Corps (the Madison area chapter) is a group of neighbors and friends working together to welcome refugees seeking freedom and safety. The group was nominated by Kelly Kearns.
