Minister’s Musings – “New Normal” 11/2/22

The birds and leaves are doing their autumn things, despite the unseasonably warm weather, and Election Day is almost here.  I can’t imagine a better time to be exploring this month’s theme: The Path of Change!  I’m thinking especially about the many changes I’ve had to make, especially within myself, since the Covid virus turned our lives upside down.  I’ve had to accept that my brain operates differently from how it did when I had regular interactions with people on a daily basis, and find ways to compensate- like keeping a to-do list and setting calendar reminders for everything.  I’ve had to adapt to virtual interactions as part of how I do my job, and work to make them as meaningful as in-person interactions.  I’ve had to learn to operate within a context of a “new normal” in which everyone I interact with holds more trauma, and I’ve had to learn to identify and process my own traumas.  I’ve had plenty of practice at asking for help, but beyond that, I’ve had to learn to more readily recognize when I need help.  And I’ve had to put a lot more attention and intention into physical, emotional, and spiritual self care.  What changes have you been making to help you keep going?

In faith and love,

Karen
