Proposed By-Law Amendment

Proposed By-Law Amendment to Reduce the Number of At-Large Board Members from 5 to 3

On April 23rd, immediately following service, the congregation will vote on whether to amend the JRUUC by-laws to reduce the number of at-large Board members from 5 to 3 and the total number of Board members from 9 to 7.

Under Article 6.4 of the current by-laws, the congregation elects 2 at-large Board members in even-numbered years and 3 at-large Board members in odd-numbered years.  Under the proposed Article 6.4, the congregation would elect 1 at-large Board member in even-numbered years and 2 at-large Board members in odd-numbered years.

Articles 6.1 and 6.4 are amended to read:

VI. Board of Trustees

6.1    There shall be a Board of Trustees (the “Board”) consisting of 4 officers and 5 3 at-large members.  The officers of the Board shall be the President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.

6.4    The congregation shall elect the Secretary, Treasurer, and at-large Board members to 2-year terms on the following schedule:

  • (a) In even-numbered years, the Secretary and 2 1 at-large members.
  • (b) In odd-numbered years, the Treasurer and 3 2 at-large members.

Effective Date

If the proposed amendments are approved by the congregation, they will be effective as of the beginning of the 2017/2018 church year, which begins on July 1, 2017. The congregation would elect 2 at-large Board members at the congregational meeting on May 21, 2017.
