First Woman To Be Elected as UUA President Next Year;
Did you know that all three candidates for the election next year for UUA President are women? So no matter who wins at the GA election in 2017, we finally will have our very first woman President of the UUA ever!
The Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, of the UU Congregation of Phoenix, AZ, the Rev. Alison Miller of the Morristown (NJ) Unitarian Fellowship, and the Rev. Jeanne Pupke of of the First UU Church of Richmond, VA, have all been invited by the Rev. Karen Quinlan to speak at James Reeb UU Congregation. We are hosting a Meet the Candidate Luncheon at 12 Noon on Sunday, July 24, and all UUs in the Madison area are invited! (Please note the time change for this event.)
Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray has confirmed her participation, but as of now we have not heard back yet from the two other candidates, who will be in Madison that week for the UU Music Conference at FUS. There will be a suggested donation of $10 for the lunch at 12 noon that Sunday, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Rev. Susan has served as the lead minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix (AZ) since 2008. She previously served as minister of First UU Church of Youngstown, Ohio, where she was a leader in congregation-based community organizing efforts, and interned at First UU Church of Nashville, TN.
After leading the UU response to Arizona's anti-immigrant laws in 2010, she became lead organizer for the Arizona Immigration Ministry and a key organizer of the 2012 Justice General Assembly. Rev. Susan is married to the Rev. Brian Frederick-Gray and they have a 9-year-old son, Henry.
