At a gathering convened by Unitarian Universalist Association co-presidents Rev. Sofia Betancourt, Rev. William Sinkford, and Dr. Leon Spencer in 2017, UU leaders of color were asked to share their insights into how the Association could continue moving forward in the midst of another racially charged moment. The request that came out of that gathering was for a process of truth and reconciliation within our Association. The Commission on Institutional Change was created and charged with supporting long-term cultural and institutional change that redeems the essential promise and ideals of Unitarian Universalism. This morning we’ll learn a bit about the promises our faith tradition has not kept, and explore the recommendations produced by the Commission from the report they have released.
Share the Plate
Our Share The Plate recipient this week is The GoFundMe for Jacob Blake, the man shot by police in Kenosha on August 23.
Julia Jackson established this fund “to cover my son’s medical expenses, mental and grief counseling for our family and to assist our family in the days to come, as we continue to seek justice for Jacob. A portion of these proceeds will also be used to benefit my son’s six children, some of whom witnessed this horrific act of violence.”
See Justice for Jacob Blake for more information.
